Mark Zuckerberg Seemingly Hints At A Paid Version Of Facebook

US-INTERNET-FACEBOOK-DEMONSTRATION

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took full responsibility for his company's role in the use of private user data by Cambridge Analytica in his testimony before the Senate on Tuesday, April 10.

One Silicon Valley star witness, 44 media-hungry senators, and five hours of mostly tough questions and often ambiguous answers.

Facebook was sued Tuesday in a class-action lawsuit in federal court, alleging the social media company failed to protect the personal information of 70.6 million users in the U.S. and over one million in the United Kingdom.

Facebook has begun alerting some users that their data was swept up in the Cambridge Analytica privacy scandal. Edward Markey, D-Mass., a fierce privacy advocate. So this is an arms race, right?

Many people logged in on their devices expecting to see a message at the top of their news feed reading "Protecting Your Information", as was described in numerous articles.

Anyone expecting bombshell revelations from Mark Zuckerberg's testimony before Congress may have been disappointed by repetitive questions and circular responses.

It is a question asked in various forms by lawmakers in both the Senate and the House, but in most cases Zuckerberg evaded it by proposing that his team follow up later.

Lujan: It may surprise you that we've not talked about this a lot today.

Political score at the end of that round: Durbin 2, Zuckerberg 0.

Zuckerberg met his match when he went up against Republican Louisiana Sen.

The shares fell steeply last month after it came to light that millions of users' personal information was harvested from Facebook by Cambridge Analytica, a political consultancy that has counted US President Donald Trump's election campaign among its clients.

"When Zuckerberg and chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg keep talking about users being in control, sure, that true", Ms Johnston said. And that audio is not used for targeting ads, he says.

Facebook deleted tens of thousands of fake accounts and will investigate tens of thousands of apps that use the platform to identify any other potential breaches. In accordance with its own policies, Facebook has been logging every phone call and text of all Android users who downloaded its mobile app and gave the app permission to access their contacts.

"We didn't take a broad enough view of our responsibility, and that was a big mistake", he said.

"Not because of this", Zuckerberg answered. In Myanmar, human rights groups say Facebook has been too slow to take down hateful posts about Rohingya Muslims.

"In retrospect it was clearly a mistake to believe them", he said.

"Nothing in life is free", Hatch said. "There is information I give my bank that I wouldn't want a hacker to see".
