Klopp rubbishes thoughts of 'easy' Roma draw

Jurgen Klopp

The Giallorossi stunned favourites Barcelona in the last eight as they fought back from a 4-1 first-leg deficit to win 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico and improbably progress on away goals.

"It's clear who are favourites".

He said: "We have seen the draw and it changes little who you get - at this stage all the teams are marvellous and strong".

Only three sides in history have won the competition three years or more in a row - Real from 1956-1960, Ajax from 1971-73 and Bayern Munich from 1974-76.

Now a football club, the Italian Seria A's AS Roma, has got involved.

Gotze was also asked if he was still in touch with Klopp.

The pairing of American-owned clubs pits a Liverpool team tied to the Boston Red Sox against Roma president James Pallotta, who has a stake in the Boston Celtics.

Dzeko scored both home and away against Barcelona, plus he earned the penalty converted by Daniele De Rossi. The final is scheduled for May 26 at the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv.

Madrid, seeking a record-extending 13th European title, is in the semi-finals for the eighth straight year. Diego Perotti and Gregoire Defrel are out, but we need to be careful and not start players who are 50-50, because we did that against Shakhtar Donetsk and it was a mistake.

Roma's sporting director, Monchi, spoke to Premium Sport after the draw was made, and he sees the tie as a chance for revenge, after Roma lost to Liverpool in the 1984 European Cup final.

"We just have to try and play and make no mistakes, play the whole game".

"Because I knew I'd have to say something after it, I tried to think about what I feel, but it was not that I thought 'Thank God not Bayern, thank God not Real Madrid, yippee Roma' or the other way around", Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told LiverpoolFC.com after the draw.

The website error was quickly taken down, but not before eagle-eyed viewers grabbed a screenshot of the tie supposedly taking place on May 2.

Even though they have been pitted against Bayern Munich, it is the best case scenario - it is always better to face them over two legs in which you can come up with a plan than a single leg where anything could happen. And yet the most interesting thing? "We have to take it as it is".

Liverpool beat runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City 5-1 on aggregate to set up their meeting with Roma.

Marseille will host underdog Salzburg in the first leg of the other semifinal.

Salah was a firm fan favorite in Rome but according to Football Italia, facing financial difficulties and dealing with UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations, Roma were essentially forced to sell the Egyptian striker.
