Donald Trump: 'Too Bad' the World Expects Us to Respond in Syria

Trump threatens Syria strike, suggests Russia shares blame

Trump tempered those remarks on Thursday.

A WHO statement Wednesday did not confirm outright that a chemical weapons attack had taken place.

The difficulty lies in finding the right balance between a symbolic strike - like that launched by Trump in April 2017 after a sarin gas attack - heavier, targeted raids and a major operation to secure regime change.

"Smart rockets ought to fly toward terrorists and not at a lawful government, which has been fighting for several years with international terrorism on its territory", Zakharova wrote in Russian on her Facebook page.

Sanders says the U.S.is confident in laying blame on the Syrian government and its Russian allies for Saturday's deadly attack in Douma.

France's Emmanuel Macron said Thursday he had "proof" that the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had used chemical weapons, and would respond to it "in due course".

"Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria", Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning.

The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Hayley, told the network: "We definitely have enough proof, but now we just have to be thoughtful in our action". "It will be insufficient to remove Assad from power and will only make the situation worse".

Ian Blackford, who heads the Scottish National Party group in Parliament, said May "presides over a minority government that has no majority or mandate for military action, and there must be no attempt to bypass Parliament". Yet Trump broke his own rule with this tweet, letting Russia, Syria, and the rest of the world know that a missile strike is on the way. "It will be in defense of a bedrock international norm that benefits all nations".

Vice President Mike Pence laughs as U.S. President Donald Trump holds a baseball bat as they attend a Made in America product showcase event at the White House in Washington, U.S., July 17, 2017. Syrian opposition activists, rescue workers and medics say dozens of people died in a suspected chemical attack on the rebel-held town of Douma, in the Eastern Ghouta region.

It comes amid Western threats of retaliation and Russian warnings of the potential for "a dangerous escalation" in the area.

President warns of ramifications after Syrian chemical attack.

General Igor Konashenkov, another spokesman for Russia's defence ministry, claims Russian intelligence has strong evidence which proves Great Britain had knowledge of and direct involvement in the attack.

The British public have not been convinced of the case for UK military involvement against the Assad regime, despite a series of alleged chemical attacks on the Syrian people throughout the seven-year civil war.
