US evangelist preacher Billy Graham dies

Graham frequently vowed to abstain from partisan politics, and almost as frequently slipped this self-imposed leash, almost always on behalf of Republicans.

Among the many awards Rev. Graham received over the years were numerous honorary doctorates and a wide range of religious, humanitarian and broadcasting honors.

The funeral service will be in Charlotte next Friday at noon.

Later, in 1963, Graham's crusade at the Coliseum in Los Angeles broke all attendance records, with 134,254 souls experiencing Graham's message.

According to a report from The Advocate, the renowned Christian evangelist's son, Franklin Graham, requested the handmade coffins for his parents after seeing them during a visit to the Louisiana prison over a decade ago.

"My household never missed a crusade", Pastor Blount says.

One could hardly describe Graham as a broad-minded figure in what and how he preached. Graham may have achieved just that, if judged by his thunderous interdenominational welcome in New York City on his last Crusade for Christ. When Baldovinos arrived, he said a car drove up to him and Graham was in it. "And it was a remarkable gift".

Graham will be laid to rest in North Carolina at the Billy Graham Museum and Library in Charlotte.

Afterward, he'll be buried beside his wife, Ruth, in the prayer garden at the northeast side of the library. The president also tweeted that Graham will be missed by Christians and people of all religions.

"I'm bowing my head, sitting on the couch", described Dr. Parrott.

Knute Josifek, an electronics instructor at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, was 16 when he decided to check out Graham in 1958 at the Cow Palace near San Francisco.

There's an interesting story behind the vessel that will actually contain Graham's body.

"Billy Graham was America's pastor", said former president George H.W. Bush. Do you know you will go to heaven when you die? They stayed in touch ever since.

Warren attributes much of his approach to his mentor.

He says Graham had the traits of a true leader, someone capable of counseling 13 US Presidents. "He then went on to meet with each president". Every seat was taken. But he remembers words from Graham himself. And he didn't compromise what the Bible says: "morality, honesty, doing good". However, he said it was a moment in 2006 that he'll remember the most. Billy Graham's other children are also expected to speak. His autobiography, "Just As I Am", published in 1997, achieved a triple crown, appearing simultaneously on the three top best-seller lists in one week. "When I was reading the plaque, I was crying", said Kim Cecchi of Hemet.

"My reaction was - I wish he'd have made 100".
