Talk is Cheap; Work You do is What Will Endure: FBI Director

US President Donald Trump says in a tweet that the Russia probe is an

"But the Russian Witch Hunt goes on and on". The memo cites FBI Assistant Director Bill Priestap as saying FBI corroboration of the dossier was in its "infancy" when the court authorized the first FISA warrant.

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi accused Mr Trump of "sending his friend Putin a bouquet", calling it a "desperate attempt to distract the American people from the truth about the Trump-Russia scandal". This will likely have major repercussions for the relationship between the Justice Department and Capitol Hill.

The [Trump campaign advisor] Carter Page FISA application also cited extensively a September 23, 2016, Yahoo News article by Michael Isikoff, which focuses on Page's July 2016 trip to Moscow.

"The FBI opened a counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign in the summer of 2016", he said.

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, the California Republican whose committee drafted the memo, promised Friday on Fox News that more memos critical of US government agencies are coming.

"A lot of people should be ashamed of themselves", he said following the memo's declassification. Republicans on the committee have said they believe they've uncovered serious misconduct that needs to be made public.

This is just the tip, much, much more to come.

Mueller has charged Trump's former campaign chief and an aide on money laundering and conspiracy charges; Trump's former national security adviser has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI; and a former campaign adviser who tipped off an Australian official to his knowledge about Kremlin-hacked emails, starting off the FBI investigation in 2016, has also pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

Jerrold Nadler, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, said Trump's decision to allow the release of the memo was "part of a coordinated propaganda effort to discredit, disable and defeat the Russia investigation". "Talk is cheap; the work you do is what will endure". The president praised "rank and file" FBI employees. Trump sacked Comey last May as the FBI pursued the Russia probe, leading to Mueller's appointment by Rosenstein.

Trump, though, has appeared undeterred on releasing the memo.

The memo, which was released on Friday by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, claims that the FBI and Justice Department relied on the infamous anti-Trump dossier to secure FISA surveillance warrants to spy on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

According to the AP, the FBI routinely relies on multiple sources of information when it obtains surveillance warrants, and that information oftentimes is not verified at the time agents make their applications.

Democrats, in the minority, on the House Intelligence Committee are pushing to release their own memo and in a statement Friday said that Rep. Nunes' (R-CA) document failed to provide "vital context".

Seeking to defuse the conflict, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan backed the release of a Democratic counterpoint memo if the Republican document were made public.

President Donald Trump waves from Air Force One prior to departure from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Feb. 2, 2018, as he travels to Mar-a-Lago for the weekend. Response locally - and across the country - varied depending on people's political leanings.

With the White House planning to release a controversial memo on the FBI's handling of the Russia investigation, one S.C. congressman is predicting the memo will "shake the organization to its core".
