Trump calls author of book on him 'a total loser'

President Donald Trump challenged the media on Friday for their obsession with the new Michael Wolff book about his presidency

He added: "What they mean by that is he has the need for instant gratification".

He went on to blast the Russian investigation, saying after a year it's proven to be "a total hoax on the American public, the Democrats and their lapdogs, the Fake News Mainstream Media".

Wolff also contended that he "absolutely" spoke to the president during his reporting of the book.

He also reportedly described Donald Jr.as "treasonous" and "unpatriotic" in taking the meeting in the first place.

But the author of the explosive new book about the Trump White House is standing by his work. Jonathan Lemire says Wolff had 'largely unfettered access' to the West Wing compared to other White House reporters.

"My credibility is being questioned by a man who has less credibility than, perhaps, anyone who has ever walked on earth at this point", Wolff said.

Still, Wolff defended his latest book as factual on the "Today" show Friday morning. And I would leave it there and say what we have is an event that should not have happened, and it is almost inexplicable that it did happen.

"I support President Trump and the platform upon which he was elected", Rebekah Mercer, who along with her father, is a top donor to conservative causes, said in a statement.

Trump on Twitter on Thursday called the book "phoney" and "full of lies, misrepresentations and sources that don't exist".

Attempts by President Donald Trump's lawyers to squash the publication of a controversial book about his administration have only fanned the flames.

"He doesn't read, he doesn't listen, he's profoundly uncurious".

Trump said former top strategist Steve Bannon, who is quoted in the book as making several disparaging remarks about Trump, facilitated the access. Wolff was given free rein to conduct interviews for the book. In some instances, it's been delivered via previously unknown vulnerabilities in the device's software.

In the interview, Mr Wolff stated his belief that Steve Bannon, the hardline nationalist who played a key role in putting Mr Trump in the White House, was now determined to see the President removed from office. But the publisher, Henry Holt, moved up the release date from later this month to Friday amid the publicity, and hard copies were quickly sold out in the Washington area. And the fact that it has happened exposes the weakness of the system, but it also exposes Donald Trump himself. These conflicts, and that looseness with the truth, if not with reality itself, are an elemental thread of the book.

Trump's efforts to prevent the book's release have backfired in another way as well.

However, there's one person who might be exempt from the ban.
