More Violence In Jerusalem After US Recognizes City As Capital

Chairman of the OIC Consultative Women’s Council Mrs Esra Albayrak in a statement said

Later Friday, Israeli warplanes bombed Hamas military targets, injuring at least 25, after militants fired rockets into Israel. The wounded included six children, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

Fighting broke out on Friday in Jerusalem's Old City and across the West Bank, as thousands of Palestinian protesters took to the streets in a "day of rage".

The latest airstrikes were targeted against Hamas facilities such as military warehouses and weapons manufacturing sites.

The move demonstrates that the United States has chosen to "waive its status of a sponsor and mediator in the Middle East peace process", it added. "Worthless!" But most Egyptians - whether fearful of state repression, exhausted from years of political turmoil, or preoccupied with their own daily concerns - chose not to risk arrest or worse by protesting in support of Palestinians.

In the past, Israel has imposed age restrictions at Jerusalem's Temple Mount compound where violence often erupts during tense times. The coastal enclave, under a strict blockade which limits access, suffers from sharp economic decline and humanitarian problems.

In the West Bank, there were clashes near the Tomb of Rachel near Bethlehem, where soldiers were using tear gas, rubber bullets, and stun grenades to turn back demonstrators who were throwing rocks and burning tires. "In fact, the name of the game is precisely to shift their calculus of self-interest toward peaceful politics, by increasing both the costs of violence and the benefits of participation".

Now the Trump administration claims it will put forth a comprehensive proposal for ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The government in Ramallah had estimated that this would come to pass, and since Tuesday morning official Palestinian radio has broadcasted protest directives on behalf of the government in the run-up to Trump's announcement.

President Trump's decision to officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital helps to restore the appropriate balance. Protesters also chanted, "Let us die as martyrs - there is no place for the State of Israel".

He urged the Security Council to denounce what he called the "irresponsible" US decision and reaffirm its position on the status of Jerusalem - that the holy city's status is unresolved and must be decided during Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations on a two-state solution. It is the holiest Jewish site and the third holiest in Islam.

A day after President Donald Trump appeared to garble his words in a public address, the White House announced that Trump will have a physical exam early next year and make the results public, NBC News reported. But the demonstrations did not rise to the level of an outright uprising. The president phoned Egypt's President Sisi, King Abdullah of Jordan, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Every Israeli child knows that the capital of the country is Jerusalem - whether that is internationally recognized or not.

On the other side of town, some Israelis told us they're worried.

At the Security Council meeting, the ambassadors of Britain, France, Italy and Sweden all spoke against the U.S. decision.

The immediate implication, which Trump elegantly ignores, goes beyond any global outcry or protests around the world.
