What's The Difference: IPhone X vs iPhone 6s
Disappointing iPhone 8 sales can, of course, be attributed to the forthcoming - and much more compelling - iPhone X. What's more, Apple has done an uncharacteristically poor job of informing prospective buyers how the iPhone 8 differs from last year's iPhone 7.
So, uh, remind me - how does this thing work?
As far as CPU's the iPhone X features Apple's new A11 Bionic chip with its Neural engine-it runs figurative circles around the old A9 chip found in the 6s Plus. While the former are unlikely to be iPhone X owners, Apple has issued guidelines saying that anyone with a similar looking sibling should avoid using Face ID and use a passcode to unlock their phone instead.
For over a decade, Apple's product announcements have been considered by many consumers to be the Holy Grail of electronics. And so much of your personal information - information you have a right to keep private - lives on your Apple devices. Next, the camera captures a separate 2D infrared image with the help of something called a flood illuminator, which is what helps the phone see your face in the dark.
Face ID relies on Apple's new TrueDepth selfie camera to project and analyze over 30,000 invisible dots on a user's face to construct a 3D image.
"The method could point to how Apple might overcome the difficulties it reportedly experienced in trying to integrate its Touch ID fingerprint scanning system into its new iPhone devices".
There are also several instances when Face ID won't work. However, this is due to the fact that the iPhone X is not included, not because iPhone 8/ 8 Plus first weekend sales have been weak.
The analyst reaffirmed her $140 price target for Apple shares, which is 9 percent higher than Wednesday's closing price. The outdated design and screen belie the forward-thinking engineering of the internals. "But if you're wearing a helmet or scarf, it works quite well". Empires rise and fall. If you use Apple Pay at your favorite retailer, can their technology harvest your data?
Speaking at the Apple Special Event on Sept. 12, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller said it's highly unlikely the facial recognition software would be susceptible to being fooled.
We've reached out to Apple and will update this article if we hear back. The problem arises from the phone's ability (for now, inability) to unlock by merely recognizing the user's face.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Relax, Apple says. Your face isn't leaving your device.
Apple has published a six-page technical white paper that addresses some of the questions and security concerns surrounding the new iPhone X's Face ID feature.
The move comes as privacy becomes a major issue in the age of artificial intelligence, when companies are gathering valuable data to beef up AI-driven functions.
Is Apple making its user overconfident?
