Trump's troubles pile up as he marks sixth month in office

'We Take Confidentiality Seriously': Rosenstein Says Memo Leaks are Improper

When asked by the New York Times if Robert Mueller would cross a "red line" by investigating the president's personal finances, Trump said the special counsel would, before seeming to dare Mueller to try it. Trump also expressed frustration with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, whose recusal from the Russia probe paved the way for Mueller's hiring in May.

"Trump has found himself now painted into a corner, and it's a very dangerous position for the country", says Norm Eisen, a lawyer with Brookings Institution. It's as if Putin is the world's biggest loan shark and Trump and company are the world's worst gamblers.

The frustration and anger on all sides will only get more intense as the long, hot summer fades into the long, hot autumn and then into a long, hot winter. And Trump also doesn't have much regard for the normal legal processes and the rule of law.

Trump has also sought to cast doubt upon the special counsel who was appointed following Sessions's recusal, former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III, by pointing to reports that Mueller has hired lawyers who contributed to Democrats. "The money appears to have been owed by shell companies connected to Mr. Manafort's business activities in Ukraine when he worked as a consultant to the pro-Russia Party of Regions".

FBI agents had already been gathering information about Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, according to two people with knowledge of that probe.

"TRUMP: I can't, I can't answer that question, because I don't think it's going to happen".

By his own account, it seems that Comey may not have followed the agency's employee agreement, which places numerous restrictions on the use of information or documents acquired during an individual's employment by the FBI.

"The Special Counsel's Office has undertaken stringent controls to prohibit unauthorized disclosures that deal severely with any member who engages in this conduct", Joshua Stueve, spokesman for the Special Counsel's Office told Breitbart News in an email response.

Among other things, the president accused Mueller of overseeing an investigatory team rife with conflicts of interest and, as the Times' report noted, warned that Mueller and his team shouldn't examine Trump's finances. "But people didn't - we had a couple people that said - Hi baby, how are you?" said Trump, pausing the discussion about Comey to greet his granddaughter.

The special counsel is now looking into the Trump business empire as part of its investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and whether anyone in the Trump campaign was involved. "It makes Mueller almost have to do it - go after his tax returns even - to prove that he's not on a leash of this President". It would simply be about warning Trump not to transgress this critical boundary, and about fighting for our freedoms if he does.

Both men attended a controversial meeting in Trump Tower last June which has become a flashpoint in the ongoing controversy over the Trump campaign team's alleged links with Russia. Students of Donald Trump's history know past performance is the best predictor of future behavior. Bayrock was a key source of capital for Trump development projects, including Trump SoHo.
