Dufry supports UN Sustainable Development Goals campaign

The minister is currently in New York attending UN's Voluntary National Review on the 2030 Agenda - Sustainable Development Goals and the General Debate of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2017, held from July 15 to 21.

Ministers from across the globe will be assessing trends related to implementation of Agenda 2030 and identify issues that may affect future achievements and the actions required to address these.

Director general of UN Geneva Michael Møller added: "People around the world need to know about the global goals and how each and every one of us can do something to be part of the solution in creating a safer, friendlier and healthier planet for all its inhabitants". Ireland will present its first formal report (referred to as a 'Voluntary National Review) on national implementation of the SDGs to the HLPF in 2018. Some countries were excluded from the final dataset because they did not have the required data available for GDP projections, and other countries changed income category classification during the course of the analysis, such that in the end there were 28 low-income countries and 39 middle-income countries. "This High-Level Political Forum is a reminder that we need to continue focusing on development cooperation". Trust in governments and in shared values declines, as we have seen with the recent resurgence of populist and isolationist politics. This is because larger cities generate scale benefits for economies, and wages are typically higher as people shift from farming to urban manufacturing and services. The organisations released a report outlining civil society positions on SDGs. Without policies for sharing prosperity, trade can increase inequalities, heightening social tensions and raise the prospect of outright unrest. The WHO reports that to meet the $371 billion goal, governments would be able to afford 85% with only 32 countries needing assistance.

Based on these goals, the SGI and Earth Charter International have jointly produced the educational exhibition "Seeds of Hope: Visions of Sustainability, steps toward change".

The Ethiopia-Djibouti corridor is an example of an integrated approach to enhancing transit, transport and trade facilitation to enable both countries to enhance its export capacities, attract quality investments, and develop quality trade and port services by developing its 'soft' infrastructure of enabling institutions, human capabilities and rules. The chair is Alberta Premier Rachel Notley. These essentially include methods that, among other things, protect and enhance the crops and the soil, improve water absorption and use efficient seed treatments.

"The single biggest opportunity is increasing the provision of affordable housing, which alone could be worth over USD 1 trillion annually by 2030". Additionally, with dispersed data a challenge, the digitisation and centralisation of government data will facilitate an efficient monitoring process. Against that, measured by the NITI Aayog and the PMO, are the three indicators of maternal, infant and child mortality data. Indeed, the measurement of a country's progress towards the attainment of the SDGs is highly data-driven, intensive in nature, and requires robust systems.

In presenting her report, Nigeria has restated her unequivocal commitment to the letter and spirit of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. But peacebuilding and development are symbiotic, like getting fit: you would not stop smoking for a month, exercise the next month, then eat well the following month ― you would work on all together.

She also recommended India's need to place the systems and mechanism in place by involving the civil society and NGO's at local, regional and national level and co-operation of public and private sector and corporates to these SDG's and ensure interconnections across the 17 SDGs to be strong that the pursuit of the goals explicitly discussed below necessarily involves the promotion of other goals as well.
